Venturing in the food system
2018-presentVenturing in the food system
I am an avid believer in giving back to my community, and have been involved in entrepreneurial, educational and food-delivery ventures throughout my professional life. My son and I prepared community food bank meals throughout Covid, and I have been an active member of the Kensal2Kilburn Fruit Harvesters since 2018, leading picks from neighborhood and private trees with annual yields of up to a tonne of fruit for foodbanks and other community organisations. I keep my own allotment-sized vegetable garden on a kind neighbour’s land and take pride in helping my family understand the bounty and pleasure of growing and harvesting their own food.
I am currently doing exploratory work with FoodCycle, CityHarvest, Nourish (a venture of UKHarvest) and others in the space to get a better feel for where my help would be most impactful. I’m reading and researching generative AI, data transparency in the food system, routes to improving food education in schools, and baselining the value of natural capital. I will be at Groundswell later this month to learn about regenerative agriculture, and am looking forward to expanding my knowledge and utility in the space on a broader scale over the coming months.
